Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai — Volume 5 (Part 4)

A normal day in the club room. Yukimura, dressed as a butler, is practicing martial arts to be able to protect her aniki, and Rika is about to play what seems to be a boys love game, but it’s actually a so-called “maiden game”, which is basically a galge for girls. In fact, this is the maiden game version of Tokimemo the game Yozora and Sena played at the beginning of the series. It’s called Girlmemo, and Yozora is far from interested in it: she says it’s surely a shitty game, just like its predecessor.

Rika of course gets angry, and so does Sena.

“I’m not interested in games where the objective is getting a boyfriend, but this game is just like Tokimemo’s imouto, and if you look down on Girlmemo, it’s as if you were looking down on… that’s it, as if you were looking down on Kobato-chan!”

Lol, Sena has already reached the stage where she thinks Kobato is actually her own imouto ^_^

But Kodaka also disagrees, given his own complex with everyone thinking he’s a delinquent based only on his looks, and there’s no way Yozora can displease her Kodaka, so she agrees to give it a try.

Now it’s time to choose a name. You are supposed to type your own name, but Yozora refuses, because the main character is a slut who will date several different boys. Fortunately, Rika persuades her that in each route you are supposed to only date one boy, so she finally accepts, but taking her revenge, Sena sabotages it and the name ends up being… Yohechiporake. Unfortunately, Rika just shows her how to rewrite it, so Yozora types Yozora… but what about Yozora’s nickname?

“So|… she ends up writing “Yozora”, but it’s clear that for a moment she wanted to type her nickname Sora, the way Kodaka used to call her ten years ago.

Yozora meets the first boy after having fallen on her butt. A handsome guy, called Sasanomori Ouji helps her.

“Aah, what a cool person. I have a feeling my life in high school will be rosy!” says the main character, but of course Sena and company make fun of Yozora for saying such a corny line.

Unfortunately, Yozora plays the game too realistically, and by that it also means it reminds me too much of my own high school life! Yozora always chooses the most brusque replies and spends the time studying and polishing all the in-game skills, easily reaching 100 in everything… but without getting any friends at all.

But maybe this is a good idea, because one day her character has difficulty understanding a question and a handsome bespectacled guy, called Touma, offers to help her…

“You’re annoying so leave me alone” is Yozora’s choice.

“I admire you for trying so hard to understand it by yourself. But there are some times when you need to rely on other people, so I will be reading a book over there, so call me if you need me”

“He’s smart and a very nice person, he’s really perfect. So why don’t you try going for him?”

Says… Kodaka! He has a feeling that he’d make many friends if he was like Touma. Somehow, Kodaka is trying to emulate some of the guys in the game, because they must have lots of friends, which is probably the same reason why Sena plays galge rather than maiden games.

“What a boring game” laments Yozora.

“Because you are making it boring! It’s just like your school life!” says Sena.

The second term in the game begins without nothing happening, until one day Yozora is surrounded by some evil guys. Although (real) Yozora says that, with a combat power of 380 (= athletic level) she can defeat them, she’s finally rescued by a blond, delinquent-looking guy from her own school.

His name is Nagatani Eiji. And now the player can choose to invite him for a date. Everyone expects that Yozora will also turn him down, but to their surprise she’s eager to go out with him.

“So Yozora-sempai likes that type of boy!” says Rika. Yozora denies it, but she blushes. Of course, it’s Eiji resembles Kodaka somewhat so the parallel is pretty obvious here! I guess Yozora likes more… wild boys ^_^

Yozora and Eiji go on several dates. One day, he notices that Yozora has changed her hair…

“I wish Kodaka-sempai would also notice those things” laments Rika.

Kodaka explains that he did notice that Yozora changed her hair, and even told her she looked good, which makes Rika even more miserable.

“Oh but Rika, you’ve also changed your haircut… several times, something happened?” Kodaka in fact remembers all the changes.

“IF YOU NOTICED IT THEN SAY IT!!!!!!!!” cries Rika, who was changing her appearance all the time so Kodaka would notice it, but he never said anything so that made her sad.

In fact, Rika says that her “capture” level is very low, so Kodaka needs to do very little for her “like level” to raise and lead to the H scenes (eroge style!).

“And why would I want to raise your “like level”?” asks Kodaka.

“GODDAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You ask why! You’ve never even thought about it!”

Poor Rika. He’s too dense.

“Ah, but I’m glad Kodaka-sempai remembered all my hairstyles. Rika is getting wet~ But you don’t see Rika as a target to “capture” so I’m confused. And since I’m confused, I’m going to my room to masturbate”

I may not have said it before, but Rika is totally awesome.

“As usual I can’t understand her” mutters Kodaka once Rika leaves to masturbate(!)… only to be hit by Yozora, Yukimura and Sena at the same time, for being so, so dense. I guess the other three girls know well how Rika feels!

Anyway, let’s go back to the game. It’s clear that Eiji likes Yozora, and the real Yozora is actually blushing!

“What should I do! I think that Eiji has fallen in love with me!!” she says in real life.

However, things end up not going so well. Yozora for some random reason is chosen seitokaichou and delinquent Eiji says that it would be bad for her to be seen with him. Still, Yozora refuses to stop seeing him, but one day he gets into trouble and is expelled. This is supposed to be the climax of the story, but nothing happens. They just get a brief message telling them that Yozora’s school life was well, a little empty. Bad ending.

And Kodaka sees how Yozora’s shoulders shake. She may be crying!

Afterwards they found out that to save Keiji Yozora needed the support of the other characters, but since she didn’t make any friends before meeting Keiji, she ended up getting the bad ending.

One afternoon, Kodaka sees that this time Rika has dyed her hair blond, actually using a special invention of hers, and to Rika’s shock Kodaka mentions that her inventions are actually “plain”, not the kind of thing you’d expect from a genius like giant robots or time machines.

The following day, Rika claims to have invented a time machine… but one that only takes your mind to the past, not the body. The device is similar to the one they used when playing that virtual reality RPG in one of the first volumes.

Kodaka doesn’t quite believe it, but offers to try it. He wants to go back to 10 years ago. He suddenly finds himself in a park at dusk.

“Wow, Rika really made it. She’s more than a genius!”

“What are you muttering, Taka?”

Kodaka sees a boy… no, a girl, a black-haired girl wearing a cap and dressing like a boy.

“So well, don’t forget our promise tomorrow” says… Sora.

“Wait, Yozora!”

“Taka.. how do you know my name?” she says, shocked.

“I’m leaving the city tomorrow!” cries Kodaka, “But even if we are apart, we will be friends forever! I won’t forget about you! I’m sorry, Yozora”

Kodaka finally is able to say what he couldn’t say ten years ago.

“I can’t forgive you. Die”

And all of a sudden, Yozora attacks him, ends up getting a horse head (like the one she used to scare Maria) and… Kodaka wakes up. As could be expected, Rika didn’t invent a time machine, but she still came up with something pretty awesome, a machine that induced him to sleep, which she intended to be a prank, but she feels sorry because Kodaka is visibly upset.

“Oh, but I was actually able to go back in time, in the dream. To ten years ago”

Sena stares at Kodaka.

“Then, Kodaka, why was Yozora in your dream?”

With a small (or big?) cliffhanger ends volume 5, and I’m already looking forward to volume 6 of this great series. Next, I will be blogging volume 1 of a certain light novel series about an international harem.

  1. Hahahaha, another great chapter indeed. The way Rika says so nonchalantly that she is gonna masturbate is just awesome. Also, now we’ve seen that Yozora does like (and a lot) Kodaka… Well it’s been obvious some time now.

Now, towards to the next chapter, which by the way when will come out? Any idea Sergio?

Anyway, thanks a lot, and looking forward to IS!!

    • I don’t know, volume 6 should be coming out soon, but I’m the last person to ask about news xD somehow I’m allergic to all news, even anime ones, so I’m always outdated

      • LOL Ok man, thanks anyway. If I ever find something, then I’ll post it here. Although probably someone will do it before me xD

Edit: Ok man, I don’t know what the hell it says, but here:

        『僕は友達が少ない 6』、2011年5月25日刊行予定、ドラマCD付き特装版を同時発売。

        And this page: http://blog.mediafactory.co.jp/comicalive/?p=4455

        ^_^

        • BokuTomo 6 will come out on 25th May 2011, as will a special version with a Drama CD included

          • Yay! Hooray for BokuTomo!! This light novel series REALLY deserves being understood with audio, but it would really, really, and I mean really, make my day if the Drama CD becomes a success and becomes adapted into an anime, like OreImo. Well, other than waiting for those two awesome works to come out in May 2011, I must commend your awesome summaries, Sergio. Keep up the good work!!

Hey, hey, hey!! I’ve got BIG, BIG breaking news!! (Although I’m not sure if anyone else have already heard this.)

I got some scoop on the BokuTomo Drama CD cast. The cast includes the following seiyuu:

Ryouhei Kimura as the delinquent, Kodaka Hasegawa

Marina Inoue (Laura & Iroha) as the untouchable tsundere beauty, Yozora Mikazuki (a.k.a. Fox).

Kanae Itou (Elsie & Ohana) as the perfect game-obssessed beauty, Sena Kashiwazaki (a.k.a. Meat).

Kana Hanazawa (Kuroneko & Mikan) as the “‘An-chan’ loving” Kobato Hasegawa (a.k.a. mini-Kuroneko+Sora).

Yuka Iguchi (Index & Chise) as the loli nun club advisor, Maria Takayama (a.ka. Miss Adult).

Misato Fukuen as the perverted genius, Rika Shiguma (a.k.a Kodaka follower no. 2, the first is Yukimura).

Too bad I didn’t get who Yukimura’s seiyuu was, since I got the news from ANN, but, strangely enough, I pictured the BokuTomo characters being portrayed by those seiyuu, and I have to say, it seems like a good deal.

However, when I was reading the summaries (before I read the news), I only imagined Yozora and Maria as Marina and Yuka, respectively. I was kind of shocked when I learned that Elsie was Sena, but I don’t hate the thought.

Well, anyway, here’s the news I brought. Sorry if I took waaaaaaay too long on this one, but I really wanted to share this with you guys.

            • OMFG!! Those are really good seiyuus. And Itou Kanae might be actually good for Sena’s roll, since she’s quite good with the tsundere characters (Serizawa Fumino, Nana Deviluke).

As for the other ones, well, there’s no point to remind about how great they are… Kana, Marina, Yuka… This is gonna be fucken amazing!!

Thanks for the info man! *brofist*

            • Innocent Zero 07 May, 2011 at 20:20

Yeah, no problem. And, oh, yeah, btw, I’m actually a girl. Who happens to be a fan of BokuTomo. No worries. I often get mistaken for one. LOL.

            • @Innocent Zero.

Oh, sorry about that ^^ It’s a little hard to know when people are men or women via internet xD And even more when speaking English. It’s a lot easier in Spanish :D

              Anyway, thanks again. ( ̄▽ ̄(

¿No? ¿Ciencia ficción tal vez? ¿Esta vez sí? Bien.

¿Llegaste a ver Dragon Ball Z?

Y si no te gusta… Mejor me reservo el comentario.

  5. Delicious developments are delicious.

  7. certain light novel series about an international harem.??

Is it what I think it is? A certain best and best-selling light novel turned manga turned anime turned moe-spinoff??

  8. Kodaka’s harem is the best.

  9. hahaha, awesome developments. Rika is awesomely crazy, and I liked how Yozora was hinting her… preferences. I can expect Kodaka to be beaten up more frequently. Also, that cliffhanger! Must… know… what… happens!

and… did i just read that right? you’re doing IS?! THANK YOU. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH

  10. what a cliffhanger… damn… Sena x Kodaka pairing is literally on the ropes now X_X

  11. Call it a hunch but I’m going to say you mean Infinite Stratos there…

And…damn…Sena’s chances of winning are growing slimmer…I can’t let that happen; feel sorry for Yozora, but I’ve made up my mind since volume 1.

    Sena must win.

Oh and yes, Rika is indeed awesome…I want a Rika! WHY DON’T I HAVE A RIKA!? And a Kobato too! KOBATOOOOO!!!! TwT

  12. As always, it’s awesome!!!

I am wondering how things will turn out now that the others saw Yozora in Kodoka’s past!!!

Always keep up the good work! XD

  13. It kinda upsets me that now Yozora has been reduced to the role of “childhood friend in love with MC”. Ever since it’s been revealed that she was Sora, her character shallowed a little. It makes BokuTomo closer to becoming a mere harem (since it was harem fom the beginning but somewhat original).

  14. Whoa, things are getting more intense. With Kodaka possible arranged marriage with Sena, Yukimura actually being a girl and the Neighbors Club finding out that Yozora is the main dudes childhood friend. I wonder about the promise that Sora (Yozora) made with Kodada that day before he moved away. Keep up the great work Sergio.

  15. This volume is PACKED!!!

  18. “Next, I will be blogging volume 1 of a certain light novel series about an international harem.”

Hey, if I’m not mistaken, (and I’m definitely hoping that it’s not only my imagination!) you’re planning on blogging the Infinite Stratos light novels, right, Sergio-san!?

If yes, then my wish has been granted!!! If no, then I’ll still wait for it, until you decide to do so…

But then, the chances of the light novels being IS is high, huh? Right??

Anyway, thanks, and keep up the great work, Sergio-san!!

    • Yeah, it’s IS xD

I’ll start writing the first summary today

      • Yay for Sergio!! Thanks a lot, since it’s been quite some time since people started asking you for the IS summaries. Anyway, more powers to you, my friend!

  19. Finally it seems the author will focus on what’s been a sort of elephant in the room for the entire story.
