I’ll be honest here, this episode was only mildly entertaining to me. Any regular reader will know that drama is not my cup of tea, but I also understand that the premise of the show needs this type of episode. It would have been most unnatural if suddenly they were all a happy “family” living in Yuuta’s cramped apartment as if nothing had happened.
And yet, for the show to become a comedy –because I think this is supposed to be a romantic comedy after all, unless I’ve been lied to by all sources—we do need some time. Take the reaction by Yuuta’s friend. At first he made a joke (or maybe he was serious!) about Yuuta having become a lolicon after failing to get a girl his age, but of course the moment Yuuta explains the situation to him, there’s no way there can be any more jokes—and I must say I love this type of jokes inspired by misunderstandings!
So yeah, I wasn’t too enthusiastic about the episode today, because I can’t really enjoy the brief moments of comedy given what’s happening at the moment. I don’t like drama precisely because I don’t like feeling sad, so I can’t enjoy comedy when there’s something like this in the background. I just prefer to enjoy happy things and funny things, but I still have my hopes for this show! It’s just, I’m really looking forward to Sora’s tsundereness, misunderstandings coming from Yuuta’s college classmates and Miu’s precocious teasing. I think this episode can serve as a buffer between the drama of the initial premise and the comedy that is to come.

Drama is pretty key to this franchise.
It’s more about family building. You need the drama to establish believability. I mean Sora basically lost 3 moms. It’s gotta weigh on them somewhat.
If you characterize better, when you get to the comedy/fanservice, its more effectual because the characters feel more in-depth.
I think the drama is fine because it sets the stage for better comedic moments that can be played off their personalities.
jokes from misunderstandings, they never get old do they..?
that aside, this show did have some drama in them if they really follow it straight from the light novel but not too heavy, but if they decided for it to be just a moe anime(like what they did with BokuTomo) then i guess thats that
For me personally, I’m into PapaKiki because that drama part, kind of. It was because the summary I read on a board that said this is about a man who try his best to become guardian of three little girls whose his nieces. I also like comedy better than drama, but I don’t know, lately I have weak spot for this kind of family drama. I almost even cry when I read some chapters of the manga(s) >3<
I read all the available English-translated manga(s) and the light novel, and they (including the anime) are different, in a good way since it kept things fresh for me.
