Toaru Majutsu no Index II – 10

Once Oriana’s anti-magic spell is destroyed by Touma, Styil is able to track her down, and she retreats after being hit by Touma, but she leaves the thing she was carrying, which wasn’t some kind of legendary sword, but a mere billboard. In fact, the sword didn’t exist to begin with — what is going to be transacted is St. Peter’s Cross, which has the power to turn whatever place it is in into something that will favor the Catholic Church, and apparently their target is none other than the “enemy” of magic, Academy City.

After losing track of Oriana Thomson, Styil tries a spell to locate her, but she has written a grimoire (which can work independently, a special ability of hers) that counter-attacks magic. Despite of the damage he takes, Styil helps Tsuchimikado pinpoint where Thomson’s “shorthand” is, which turns out to be on the grounds where Misaka’s school is competing. However, it is Fukiyose who ends up touching the tag (which is said to be the most basic form of magic) and is injured.

Touma and his happy harem antics continue during the (esper) sports festival, but the loose security means that magicians are infiltrating the city… and an interesting and potentially disastrous transaction is apparently going to be conducted, with the Catholic Church involved — the Stab Sword, which should be able to easily kill a Saint, the equivalent to a nuclear weapon in our world. And Touma meets a hot yet suspicious woman…

Musujime escapes but is followed by Kuroko, who ends up trapped under a pile of furniture while Musujime tries to persuade her to join her ranks. Apparently, she wants the Remnant to find out why she was given such a power, why her, why a human; a power, she claims, that has made her suffer a lot, that has made her harm others. Kuroko however refuses to join her — the power you have doesn’t change the fact that you’d be willing to do harm to others. Meanwhile, one of the Misaka sisters tells Touma about what is going on and he saves Kuroko just as Musujime is making the building collapse. And Accelerator has his own reasons, after hearing what’s going on, to attack Musujime and destroy the Remnant.

Some strange robbery leads Kuroko on the trail of the “Remnants” of Tree Diagram, the supercomputer that was supposed to, for example, control weather… or to aid in experiments, such as that of the Misaka sisters. Now, several countries are after the pieces of technology that are still in space, and apparently teleporter Musujime has gotten hold of one of these “Remnants”—which could be used to resume the experiment, so Mikoto is bent on making sure the computer is never rebuilt.

The Catholic Church recruits the help of Stiyl to try to stop the Amakusa Catholics who are after a ciphered book that only a nun, Aquinas, can read (not even Index was able to memorize it), and which can give its user a great power. However, the book is missing, and Aquinas is kidnapped in front of them. Meanwhile, Kanzaki, the former leader of the Amakusa, is suspected to be involved.

However, being able to read her texts almost kills him, and Touma gets there in time to stop him, and also to offer him his help, or, rather, that of his hand, the Imagine Breaker.
