Upotte – 02

You never know what to expect from a show about girls with guns (actually, girls who are also guns but who also fire guns, if that makes any sense!) although taking into account that Xebec is doing it with the distinguishing character designs by Takami Akio (Softenni, Ladies vs Butlers, Motto To Love Ru, Kanokon), I had my hopes about the show.

Haiyoru! Nyaruko-san: My Nyarlathotep can’t be this cute

Wow! Being a fan of Asumi Kana, my hopes were up the moment I realized she was voicing the main character, moe Cthulhu mythos otaku god Nyarlathotep, Nyaruko to friends. Seeing her genki, hyperactive personality, I kept liking this show more and more, until I was in love with it by the end. I mean, it’s a hilarious, random, totally crazy romantic comedy. You never know what unexpected thing Nyaruko is going to say or do, or what it’s going to parody next (including Pokemon xD). And I mean, here we have an alien/Cthulhu god who is a complete otaku! (Apparently, otaku culture is highly appreciated by aliens. All Hail the Aliens!)

What did I just watch? Can someone explain it to me?

I think the best about this anime is going to be the “lol” factor. The girl are cute, the art style is very good and of course reminds me of great series like Ladies vs Butlers, but all the weird innuendo and moe whatever-morphosization are what makes this anime so entertaining to watch. The art is also pretty good, detailed, and it’s airing in BD definition (1080p) so it’s just gorgeous to look at. I may not be precisely the biggest fan of “girls with guns”, but I admit they look hot holding those guns. I mean, the gun-girls holding guns. If that makes any sense!

Acchi Kocchi, the moe anime of the year!

What is this!! What did I just watch?!?! I mean… this has to be the most moe anime I’ve seen in a while. A slice-of-life comedy with a totally adorable silent tsundere neko-type girl whose reactions are always the cutest thing you can ever imagine. The rest of the cast is up to the task as well. I especially like Mayoi, who loves teasing them and who can elicit the most delicious reactions from the easily embarrassed Tsumiki, especially in relation to how she tries to cling to Io. But also Hime is priceless! I mean… I’m totally loving this anime!!!

Natsuiro Kiseki – let’s hope it’s more summer and less miracles

Just watched Natsuiro Kiseki early, and my impressions are mixed but in principle should be positive. As regular readers you know, I’m all into slice-of-life animes about friendship, especially if it’s about friendship among high school (well, the girls here are middle school) girls. The totally cute interactions between Saki, who was coping with the sadness of having to leave by being cold towards her friends, and Natsumi who seems to be slightly tsundere-ish, were really good, and of course I’m hoping Saki won’t leave although it’s kinda to be expected she’ll stay since she’s one of the main characters.

Medaka Box, I can’t believe this is Toyosaki Aki!

Ever since I learned Toyosaki Aki would be voicing Medaka, even before the brief PV where she appeared I wondered how she would sound, since Medaka isn’t the type of girl you usually associate with Aki-chan, who voices Yui in K-ON, Nako-chi in HanaIro or Uiharu in Railgun among others, so hearing a more adult-sounding Toyosaki Aki (hell I guess that’s closer to her everyday voice than the hyperactive Yui!) was something to look forward to. How to say, she reminds me a little of Hikasa Youko (Mio’s seiyuu in K-ON, or Rias’ seiyuu in Hihg School DxD).

Here we go, Spring 2012 season begins with a hentai tensai masou shoujo!

At long last, the new season starts! Spring 2012 looks promising, and here we had Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? Of the Dead with a hilarious episode, which served as a re-introduction of the characters -hell, even they self-introduced themselves by stating their monster “affiliation”- but it ended with the hilarious public humiliation (including on Twitter!! that was outrageously funny!) of hentai tensai masou shoujo Ayumu who nonetheless defeated the dangerously BL-tentacle-raep giant ika musume megalo.

To LoveRu Darkness getting an anime!

Awesome, really awesome news people! To Love-Ru Darkness, the more ecchi, gorgeous sequel to the original TLR manga with Momo and Yami as the main characters, is getting an anime. As long as it’s uncensored and keeps the same great art as the original, this sounds terrific!

Ano Natsu de Matteru, final episode

Well romance anime Ano Natsu de Matteru comes to an end, with a very good last episode, especially the second half. Admittedly, the whole alien thing got too weird and almost out of hand (although in the end it’s more like the end of a running gag regarding Lemon; as I’ve always maintained, just make Ichika a foreign girl studying in Japan during that memorable summer and you have the same -great- story), but the second half was able to become emotional, nostalgic while giving us a reason to feel happy that things just didn’t come to a sad and abrupt end, with Ichika wearing that Bolivian outfit to tell us that she actually got back. Even if she’s not my favorite girl (I was supporting Kanna) it’s hard not to feel sad when our cute meganekko alien has to leave under such circumstances, and to be delighted there’s more than enough room for hope!
