Saki: Achiga-hen: May Impressions

I think I know enough mahjong to at least get how you win, what ron or tsumo or a dora tile or riichi is, and above all to know how over-the-top all the mahjong superpowers are, and I know way too little mahjong to get how points are counted, why some hand or decision is so surprising, etc.

But you know what? Saki Achiga-hen, just like Saki the original series, is only marginally about mahjong, unless you are really into it. Saki is over and above the yuri background stories.

That moment!

Forget about the cute miniskirt pirates cosplaying while doing their piracy business. For yuri fans, this was beyond any expectations. I guess we’re used to a lot of teasing, but to see these two girls (I was always a fan of the club’s president) passionately (and proudly!) kiss… that was awesome. Good job Mouretsu Pirates, as well as for keeping the show light-hearted and entertaining.

Ben-to – 09

Just to get the negative stuff off my chest, I think this episode, just last like episode, lacked Sen. Honestly, the Ice Witch and the wolf battles are what give Ben-to that distinctive flair, between parody and just kick-ass action, and I’m really missing it.

But of course, I cannot complain after all. Asebi was just hyper-moe (I’d eat her bento any time!), the twincest sisters were back and, more importantly, the long, detailed yuri scene between Oshiroi and Ume was… fantastic. The type of episode where a few screencaps that are hot, but don’t do justice to the sexiness of the scene, are enough to portray both what the episode was like and what I loved about it.

Review – Yuru Yuri

Yuru Yuri was my favorite anime of the 2011 Summer season and once I make my ranking of favorite animes of the year, I can already announce that it’s going to be part of the top 3 animes, because Yuru Yuri pretty much embodies every single anime genre/style that I love and live for – with the honorable exception of harem.

Yuru Yuri has an almost hyperactive upbeat style, represented very well by the OP. The OP is addictive and very cheerful, I really like the combination of all different voices, and the lyrics are sometimes random and crazy, just the way I like it (I’m a sucker for songs like that, somewhat nonsensical, cheerful tunes).

Poll: Azusa x Yui – Gallery

Well, the poll where I asked who the most fitting partner for Azusa is is already closed, and the winner is Yui. Mio finishes as runner-up.

I decided to ask about Azusa because well, I think a sempai/kouhai yuri relationship is pretty sweet, and personally I voted for Mio. I guess because they look almost like sisters or something, although I admit that Yui x Azusa has lots of chemistry. The more relcutant kouhai, Azusa, and the very playful, direct sempai, Yui, who seems to have a penchant for skinship.
